How-to guide on listing yourself as available crew
Your offer is easy to find and does not get lost
The search is location-based, ensuring that your listing remains visible regardless of when you created it. You only need to publish your offer once, and your advertisement won't get lost among other posts.
Easier to match with skippers in a specific location
Skippers can find you by the exact location where you advertise your availability as crew. This method is more efficient and quicker than scrolling through numerous irrelevant posts. You'll be contacted only by skippers with matching opportunities.
Message and review skippers' sailing profiles
To message someone, one needs to sign up for Seilii and create a profile focused on their sailing experience and skills. You can review the profiles of potential skippers offering sailing opportunities and message them as much as you like.
Step-by-step listing guide
1. Sign up to create a listing. Ensure you verify your email, as you will receive message notifications there. TIP: Build a comprehensive profile to help sell your listing. Others want to know more about you before deciding to contact you for opportunities.
2. Go to "List available crew," select a listing type and category, and provide details about your sailing plans and expectations.
3. Choose your ideal start location, it can be anywhere and it does not need to be your actual location. Your location will be shown on the map when skippers search for available crew. TIP: If you want to save your listing as a draft and finalise it later, you must get to this point before it's saved automatically.
4. Upload high quality photos. TIP: You can add more photos of yourself, showcasing the types of boats you've sailed on or any other pictures that highlight your hobbies and interests.
5. Publish your listing! Start getting enquiries. TIP: You will receive email notifications for any enquiries. Ensure your email you used for signing up for Seilii is verified and messages don't go to the spam folder.
6. Review the profiles of skippers with opportunities and message them back.

What if I'm available in multiple locations?
We recommend creating multiple listings in this case, especially if the locations are more than 200km apart. For example, if you're looking for sailing trips starting around Alicante, Spain, you can create one listing for this, and then another for trips starting around Porto, Portugal.
How to choose a location if it's the entire country?
Being specific is more helpful. Consider where you can realistically travel on short notice. For example, if you want to start from France, choose the nearest marina you can easily reach. If there are two marinas—one in the Mediterranean and the other on the Atlantic side—create separate listings for each.
What happens after the initial messaging?
Currently, Seilii facilitates profile creation, crew advertisement, and messaging. After messaging each other, it's up to you how you want to proceed. We recommend either meeting face-to-face or, if that's not possible, having a (video) call and checking any available references. This helps ensure compatibility in terms of personality, experience, and skills before sailing together.
Can I create a listing with my friend?
Sign-up and profile creation on Seilii are personal, as is the messaging between parties. We recommend that both of you create your own profiles and listings, but you can mention that you are coming together. This way potential skippers know what to expect and they can message both parties separately.
I'm a digital nomad and would like to spend time on a sailing boat, maybe do some sailing. Can I list an advert?
Absolutely! There may be other digital nomads who own a boat and would like some company from time to time. Just be clear in your listing description about the kind of sailing experience you're looking for.
I don't want more enquiries about my listing. How do I close it?
You can manage your listings through your profile under 'Your Listings' and close a listing when needed. This hides it from the search results, making it no longer available. If you want to edit and reopen it, you can simply do so.
