How-to guide on listing charter boat shares

Find other sailors for your sailing holiday

Have you hired a charter boat for your sailing holiday and have some space available? Or are you dreaming of sailing abroad but don’t have friends or family who can join you? On Seilii, you can advertise your holiday to find other enthusiasts to join you.

Your offer is easy to find and visible on a map

The search is location-based, ensuring that your listing is always visible, regardless of when you created it. Sailors interested in sailing holidays in the same region can easily find your offer without having to scroll through multiple posts or listings.

Receive enquiries and review profiles

Those interested in sailing with you can message you after reading the basic info about you and your trip, saving you time from repeating details. You can review their sailing profile and message them back. What happens next is up to you.

Step-by-step listing guide

1. Sign up to create a listing. Ensure you verify your email, as you will receive message notifications there. TIP: Build a comprehensive profile to help sell your listing. Others want to know more about you before deciding to join your sailing holiday.

2. Go to "List a sailing opportunity," select a listing type and category, and provide details of your planned holiday. TIP: If your plans and costs are not finalised, provide your best estimate and make it clear that things may change and the reason for it.

3. Choose the start location, which will be shown on the map when sailors search for opportunities. TIP: If you want to save your listing as a draft and finalise it later, you must get to this point before it's saved automatically.

4. Upload high quality photos. TIP: If you’ve sailed in the area before, use those photos. Potential guests also want to see the boat, so consider asking for permission to use photos from the charter company, including layout photos of the boat. You can also upload photos of the others who are joining (with their permission), as well as photos of yourself.

5. Publish your listing! Start getting enquiries. TIP: You will receive email notifications for any enquiries. Ensure your email you used for signing up for Seilii is verified and messages don't go to the spam folder.

6. Review the profiles of interested sailors and message them back.

FAQ

Can I collect deposits or shared expense contributions?

Yes, you can, and it is up to you how you want to organise it. Agree on the method with the sailors who want to join your holiday. Remember not to share any personal banking details in the listing, as it is publicly available to everyone. Currently, Seilii does not offer a feature to collect deposits or shared expense contributions from others.

I’m only at the planning stage of hiring a charter boat. What should I do?

Usually, other sailors want to know the details of a trip before committing to it. It is easier to find others to join your sailing holiday if you can provide them with enough information. That’s why the listing requires certain details about your trip, which necessitates having the charter boat already hired. This obviously carries a personal financial risk, so you must be comfortable with it. Some charter companies or platforms offer cancellation insurance in case you need to cancel the charter hire. If you’re not comfortable with the personal risk, we recommend looking for sailing holidays on someone else’s boat.

I have enough people for my charter holiday. How do I close the listing?

You can manage your listings through your profile under 'Your Listings' and close a listing when needed. This hides it from the search results, making it no longer available. If you want to edit and reopen it, you can simply do so.

I have been contacted by a person who has friends coming too. Can I see their profiles?

Sign-up and profile creation on Seilii are personal, as is the messaging between parties. It's perfectly fine for someone to ask if their friends can join, but if you want to chat with them personally and review their profiles, you can request that they sign up for Seilii and create a profile. This is a great way to keep track of the people joining your holiday.
